Founded in 1923 by the brothers Siegmund and David Ludwig Loewe, Loewe presented the world’s first electronic film transmission at the 8th Berlin Radio Exhibition in 1931. The inventor and physicist Manfred von Ardenne, Loewe’s Chief Engineer, came up with the technology. This marked Loewe's invention of the electronic television – TV as we know it today. Loewe also developed the first portable television. Loewe devices are still made in Germany. The development, production and service departments are based in Kronach (Upper Franconia). Loewe products use modular technology, premium materials, and regular software updates.
From the manufacture of a recyclable television to the establishing of an environmental management system in accordance with ISO 14001, Loewe protects natural resources and uses them sparingly. Materials which damage the environment are avoided as much as possible in product design and construction, and appliances are made to last a long time. All Loewe TVs have been categorised as energy efficiency class A+, A or B and all Loewe products meet the RoHS EU directive. Loewe is also involved in the Bavarian Environmental Pact: 99% of all its waste is recycled.
Role in the project
Loewe is running one of the industrial pilots, and providing input to the specification of the ResCoM framework in the Requirement Analysis and Framework Definition Work Package It will provide feedback to the development of the ResCoM Collaborative Software Platform. Loewe will implement and evaluate the ResCoM framework in the evaluation of the industrial pilot.
